Germany’s modern heavy scene keeps producing bands capable of moving between metalcore, alternative metal and the increasingly genre-fluid world surrounding both. Leipzig trio blacktoothed are becoming one of the more interesting names within that movement.

Their latest single, “WILL YOU SURVIVE WHEN I DEVOUR YOUR HEARTBEAT,” arrived on August 13 via Arising Empire and continues what the band have described as their evolving FERAL BLOOM era.

Following “TELL ME I’M NOT ALONE” and “CYCLONE” earlier this year, the new track pushes blacktoothed towards a bigger and more emotionally intense version of their sound.

Heaviness built around vulnerability

“WILL YOU SURVIVE WHEN I DEVOUR YOUR HEARTBEAT” doesn’t rely on heaviness alone.

Crushing riffs sit alongside large melodic sections and emotionally charged vocals, continuing blacktoothed’s tendency to pull modern metalcore towards alternative rock rather than treating the two as separate worlds.

At the centre of the song is trauma.

The track approaches suppressed emotional pain as something that doesn’t simply disappear when ignored. Instead, that darkness becomes its own presence, forcing buried wounds back towards the surface.

That tension between destruction and growth also explains the FERAL BLOOM concept increasingly surrounding the band’s current material.

Rather than presenting healing as something clean or comfortable, blacktoothed frame it as a confrontation. Something potentially ugly has to surface before anything new can grow in its place.

It gives the heaviness a purpose beyond simply making the track hit harder.

The FERAL BLOOM era is taking shape

The new single is the third piece of new material released by blacktoothed in 2026.

“TELL ME I’M NOT ALONE” arrived in May, followed by “CYCLONE” in June and now “WILL YOU SURVIVE WHEN I DEVOUR YOUR HEARTBEAT” in August.

Together, the songs suggest a band gradually defining its next phase rather than simply releasing disconnected singles.

That development follows previous releases including the band’s JULI album, Antidote EP and 2025’s Headway.

Across those releases, blacktoothed have steadily expanded the boundaries of their sound. Metalcore remains an obvious foundation, but alternative rock, electronic textures and increasingly prominent hooks have become just as important.

The result sits comfortably within the current generation of European modern metal, where atmosphere and accessibility no longer necessarily come at the expense of heaviness.

Built on increasingly bigger stages

blacktoothed’s development hasn’t happened exclusively through streaming platforms and studio releases.

The Leipzig trio have already shared stages with Bad Omens, The Ghost Inside, The Amity Affliction, Emmure, Polaris, Wargasm, Annisokay and Thundermother.

That is a particularly telling list.

Some of those bands come directly from metalcore. Others have pushed far beyond its traditional boundaries into alternative metal, electronic music or arena-sized modern rock.

blacktoothed increasingly make sense in that same space.

Their latest festival appearance came just two days after the single’s release, when they played Summer Breeze Open Air in Dinkelsbühl on August 15.

Exposure to audiences of that scale matters for a band at this point in its development. The question is no longer whether blacktoothed can establish themselves within Germany’s club circuit. It is whether they can convert that foundation into a wider European audience.

Germany already has a substantial modern metal infrastructure, from established names and specialist labels to clubs and festivals capable of feeding emerging bands into international touring circuits.

blacktoothed have increasingly found their place within it.

Their position on Arising Empire gives them a label operating directly inside contemporary European heavy music, while touring opportunities have repeatedly put the trio in front of audiences following exactly the kind of bands blacktoothed could eventually join on larger stages.

They aren’t there yet.

But that is what makes their current phase worth following.

There is a clear progression from the earlier releases to Headway, and now towards FERAL BLOOM. The production is getting bigger, the melodic identity stronger and the band’s live history increasingly international.

Ready for the next level

Calling an emerging band the future of a genre is easy. Measuring whether they are actually progressing is more useful.

With blacktoothed, there are tangible signs.

They have supported major international acts. They are appearing at established German heavy festivals. Their catalogue is developing a clearer identity. And the FERAL BLOOM material sounds increasingly designed for stages larger than the clubs where bands like this traditionally begin.

“WILL YOU SURVIVE WHEN I DEVOUR YOUR HEARTBEAT” is another step in that direction.

It doesn’t abandon metalcore, but it doesn’t allow the genre to define everything blacktoothed can become either.

For a band trying to move from promising German act towards a genuine European modern-metal presence, that might be exactly the right place to be.
