Dutch hardcore veterans Born From Pain have joined forces with independent Polish hardcore label Spook Records for a deluxe CD edition of their latest release, Siege Mentality. The physical edition is currently planned for autumn 2026, with pre-orders expected to open during the second half of September.
The collaboration adds another chapter to Born From Pain’s long connection with the Polish hardcore scene. It also comes just ahead of a major milestone: 2027 will mark thirty years since the band formed in Heerlen.
And Poland looks set to be part of that anniversary year.
‘Siege Mentality’ finally gets its CD edition
Siege Mentality originally arrived as a seven-track 12-inch on November 20, 2025, followed by an expanded digital edition through Blood Blast on January 30, 2026.
Spook Records will now bring that expanded version to CD for the first time.
The new physical edition contains all eight tracks from Siege Mentality (Deluxe), including “De Letste Sjiech.” Additional photography will be included in the package, while the disc itself is planned to feature a mini-disc-inspired visual design.
An exact release date has not yet been confirmed. Spook Records is still finalising the master and artwork, with October currently the earliest realistic release window if production begins during September.
For vocalist Rob Franssen, releasing the record on CD remains important despite the format no longer dominating physical music sales.
Born From Pain previously handled the vinyl edition themselves before working with Blood Blast on digital distribution. Spook Records now completes the picture with the CD release.
A Polish connection that goes back decades
The partnership isn’t as unexpected as it might initially appear.
Born From Pain have a long history with Poland and its hardcore scene. That relationship stretches back to the band’s earliest releases.
Their debut full-length, Reclaiming The Crown, originally appeared through GSR in 2000. Two years later, Poland’s Shing Records secured permission to release the album on cassette, an edition that became an important introduction to Born From Pain for parts of the Polish hardcore audience.
The band also appeared on a Shing Records label sampler around the same period.
More than two decades later, the Spook Records deal reconnects Born From Pain with an independent Polish label.
The new partnership itself began after Spook Records met Franssen at Revolution Calling Festival in 2025. An email followed shortly afterwards proposing a CD edition of Siege Mentality, eventually developing into the release now planned for this autumn.
For Spook Records, bringing Born From Pain into its catalogue also carries some personal significance. The label describes the band as one of the first European hardcore acts that made a major impression on them during the early 2000s, particularly around Sands of Time and In Love With The End.
Heerlen runs through ‘Siege Mentality’
While the Polish connection gives the new edition additional context, Siege Mentality itself remains deeply connected to Born From Pain’s home in Limburg.
The band formed in Heerlen in 1997, emerging from the Mijnstreek Oost Crew and the hardcore community that developed in the former mining region.
That history runs directly through the record.
Across its short and aggressive runtime, Siege Mentality deals with personal struggle, frustration and the social and economic consequences left behind after the collapse of the mining industry.
The additional eighth track, “De Letste Sjiech,” makes that regional connection even stronger.
Written in the local language, the song is the counterpart to “The Last Descent” and serves as a tribute to miners who lost their lives underground. Its narrative follows a miner as an ordinary shift turns into panic below the surface, bringing one of Limburg’s defining pieces of history directly into Born From Pain’s hardcore.
For a band that has spent almost three decades touring internationally, it is a striking reminder of how strongly their music remains connected to where they started.
Born From Pain want to return to Poland in 2027
The Spook Records collaboration won’t necessarily end with the CD.
Franssen has confirmed that Born From Pain intend to return to Poland in 2027, with discussions underway around a tour, individual shows and potentially festival appearances.
No dates have been announced yet, so this isn’t a confirmed Polish tour at this stage. But the intention is clear.
That timing would be particularly fitting.
Next year marks Born From Pain’s 30th anniversary, three decades after the band emerged from Heerlen before taking their metallic hardcore across Europe, the United States, Mexico and Japan and sharing stages with names including Hatebreed, Madball, Agnostic Front, Soulfly and Slayer.
Returning to a country that played a role in spreading their music during those early years would bring that history back around.
Hardcore connections that last
The Born From Pain and Spook Records partnership is relatively small in conventional music-industry terms. It concerns one physical edition of an existing release rather than a major new record deal.
Within hardcore, that almost makes it more interesting.
A relationship that began with a Polish cassette release in the early 2000s now continues through another independent label more than twenty years later. A record rooted deeply in Heerlen’s mining history gets another physical life outside the Netherlands. And that label connection could now help bring Born From Pain back onto Polish stages.
Scenes are built from exactly these kinds of connections.
With Siege Mentality heading to CD and a Polish return being planned for 2027, Born From Pain are connecting their present directly back to the European hardcore network that helped carry the band beyond Heerlen in the first place.
