State Power Are Ready for the Next Step with Debut Album ‘Hyperstition’

The Dutch hardcore scene has another name pushing rapidly beyond its borders. Utrecht’s State Power release their debut album Hyperstition on August 28, following two years in which the band have moved from a new local hardcore project to festival stages and support slots alongside some of the biggest names in contemporary heavy music.

Formed in 2024, State Power have wasted little time. Two EPs, festival appearances and shows alongside Knocked Loose, Drug Church and Fleshwater have already put the five-piece firmly on the radar. Now, ten new tracks make up Hyperstition, their first full-length and arguably the clearest indication yet of where State Power can go next.

Hardcore with something to say

State Power describe themselves simply as hardcore from Utrecht and sum up their approach as “pure love, in its most aggressive form.”

Hyperstition gives that aggression a clear target.

Across the record, the band confront the influence of technology, artificial intelligence, economic inequality and the increasingly fragmented communities surrounding modern life. Rather than treating hardcore purely as fuel for the pit, State Power use its urgency to address the systems shaping the world outside the venue.

Musically, that translates into a compact mix of hardcore punk, crossover thrash and metallic hardcore. The ten tracks run for less than 25 minutes, with little space wasted between thrash-driven riffs, D-beat sections, two-steps and heavy breakdowns.

Recent singles “Schizoscene” and “The Sin of Empathy” have already offered a first taste of that approach ahead of the album’s arrival.

From Utrecht to Jera and Knocked Loose

The speed of State Power’s rise is almost as striking as the music itself.

Their first EP, The Year of the Harvest, arrived in September 2024, followed by Final Hour in February 2025. Since then, the band have steadily moved onto larger stages.

A memorable appearance at Jera On Air helped introduce State Power to a much wider hardcore audience, while support slots for bands including Knocked Loose, Drug Church and Fleshwater placed them directly alongside established international acts.

Their June 2026 show opening for Knocked Loose at Doornroosje in Nijmegen was another important marker. State Power were no longer simply working their way through small local shows. They were playing in front of audiences already invested in the current international hardcore movement.

And that momentum isn’t slowing down.

Taking State Power beyond the Netherlands

With Hyperstition, the band’s focus is increasingly moving beyond the Dutch scene.

Upcoming dates take State Power through the UK and continental Europe, while shows alongside Stick To Your Guns provide another opportunity to reach audiences firmly rooted in hardcore and metalcore.

At the same time, the band aren’t abandoning their home territory. A release show at De Helling in Utrecht on September 26 brings the record back to where the project started, before further Dutch dates later in the year.

That combination matters. State Power are emerging at a moment when European hardcore feels increasingly interconnected, with bands able to move between local scenes, established hardcore tours and major alternative festivals without having to choose between them.

One of Dutch hardcore’s bands to watch

There is still a long distance between releasing a debut album and becoming an established European hardcore name. But State Power have already built the kind of foundation that makes the next step realistic.

They have the live experience. They have international support opportunities. They have festival exposure. Most importantly, they now have a debut record that gives the band an identity beyond individual shows and singles.

Hyperstition therefore feels less like an introduction than the end of State Power’s opening chapter.

Two years after forming, the Utrecht five-piece are heading into their first full-length with considerably more momentum than most new hardcore bands get to carry into a debut.

The next question is how far they can take it.
