SEPTEMBER RELEASES[FRAMED]: Fourteen Records Landing on 4 September

September doesn’t ease into things. The first Friday of the month immediately brings a crowded release day across hardcore, punk, post-hardcore, noise rock and modern metal.

Fourteen releases on our radar arrive on 4 September alone. Some are obvious names, others sit much closer to the underground, but together they make this one of the first dates worth circling on September’s heavy release calendar.

Metalcore | Pure Noise

Pittsburgh’s 156/Silence return with another dose of abrasive modern metalcore. The band have steadily moved beyond hardcore circles in recent years, making From A Distance one of this week’s heavier releases to check.

Amyl and the Sniffers | Truth Or Consequence
Punk / Alternative | Virgin

Amyl and the Sniffers continue their rise with Truth Or Consequence. The Melbourne band’s combination of punk energy and increasingly broad alternative appeal makes this one of the day’s higher-profile releases.

Anchors & Hearts | Campfire Chronicles
Melodic Hardcore / Post-Hardcore | Arising Empire

Germany’s Anchors & Hearts bring the European contribution with Campfire Chronicles, continuing their crossover between melodic hardcore, post-hardcore and punk.

Bloodshed | Punishments Beyond Comprehension
Hardcore | Independent

One for the underground end of the list. Punishments Beyond Comprehension keeps things firmly rooted in hardcore without a major label operation behind it.

Chat Pile | Who Loves The Sun
Noise Rock / Post-Hardcore | The Flenser

Chat Pile’s third full-length is one of the day’s most interesting records. The Oklahoma band still sound deeply uncomfortable, but Who Loves The Sun introduces more melody and atmosphere alongside their noise-rock abrasion. Lyrically, Ray B. turns his attention towards technological overreach, inequality, climate change and collective indifference.

Devil Master | Bloody Dreams
Punk / Black Metal / Post-Punk | Relapse

Devil Master remain difficult to file neatly anywhere. Bloody Dreams brings black metal, punk and post-punk together again, following final pre-release single “Sex with Succubus”.

Doomcrusher | Forsaker EP

Another German release arrives from Doomcrusher. Forsaker continues the band’s collision of modern metalcore weight and industrial production.

Evergold | Rip Out the Wires
Post-Hardcore / Emo | Independent

Evergold occupy the more melodic side of this week’s releases with Rip Out the Wires, moving between post-hardcore and emo.

Great Escapes | Vice Versa
Emo / Punk Rock | Midsummer

Vice Versa adds another European release to the September 4 pile, with Great Escapes working from the overlap between emo and punk rock.

Harrison Gordon | BLISS
Punk / Alternative | Smoking Room

Harrison Gordon’s BLISS sits towards the scrappier alternative and punk end of this week’s spectrum.

Judiciary | Stalagmite Angels
Hardcore / Crossover | Closed Casket Activities

For anyone looking for riffs rather than restraint, Judiciary are back. The Texas band’s crossover-heavy approach makes Stalagmite Angels one of the more obvious hardcore picks from today’s releases.

Movements | Happier Now
Post-Hardcore / Emo / Alternative | Fearless

Movements return with their fourth album and once again work with producer Will Yip. Happier Now keeps the tension and dissonant grooves associated with the band while opening more room for melody across its twelve tracks.

PRESIDENT | Blood Of Your Empire
Modern Metal / Alternative | Atlantic

Few new heavy acts have reached a debut album with this much attention already surrounding them. PRESIDENT turn their rapid rise into ten-track debut Blood Of Your Empire, continuing the anonymous project’s mix of modern metal, metalcore and electronic production.

Showing Teeth close out this first batch with A Fate Worse Than Loneliness, an EP sitting on the heavier end of contemporary metalcore and deathcore.

ON OUR RADAR[FRAMED]

If you’re only picking a handful from today’s list, Chat Pile, Judiciary, Movements, PRESIDENT and 156/Silence provide a good cross-section of where heavy alternative music sits right now.

Chat Pile remain the wildcard. Who Loves The Sun expands their sound without cleaning up the unease that made them interesting in the first place. Movements offer the melodic counterpoint with a fourth album that stays close to the band’s established identity, while PRESIDENT arrive at the opposite end of the career curve with a debut following barely a year of extraordinary momentum.

Judiciary and 156/Silence, meanwhile, keep the hardcore and metallic side of the week covered.
